The Jerusalem Tavern in Clerkenwell takes its name from the Priory of St John of Jerusalem, which once dominated the medieval neighbourhood. While taverns bearing the name have existed in the area since the 14th century, the present building dates from around 1720 and was originally a merchant's house and later a clock and watchmaker's shop.
The interior, with its worn wooden floors, panelling, and tiled features, was fitted out to evoke an 18th-century coffee house and tavern. It is the sole London outpost of Suffolk's St Peter's Brewery, which restored the building to showcase its full range of ales in an authentically historic setting.
