The Churchill Arms first opened its doors in 1750, during the reign of King George II, and takes its name from Winston Churchill's grandparents, who were regulars in the 19th century. The pub formally adopted the Churchill name after the Second World War in tribute to the wartime Prime Minister, and the walls remain packed with Churchill memorabilia, vintage photographs, and curios that tell the story of British history through the decades.
Today the pub is best known for its breathtaking floral exterior. Landlord Gerry O'Brien transformed the building into a cascade of colour using around 100 hanging baskets and 40 window boxes, spending tens of thousands of pounds each year on blooms that make it one of the most Instagrammed buildings in the capital. At Christmas, the flowers give way to roughly 90 Christmas trees, drawing visitors from across the world to this corner of Kensington.
What to Expect
Step inside and you'll find a warm, traditional Fuller's pub serving a full range of cask ales beneath ceilings hung with copper pots and historic bric-a-brac. To the rear sits the conservatory dining room, home to the pub's celebrated Thai kitchen — one of the first of its kind in London — where authentic curries and noodle dishes have been served since the late 1980s. Booking ahead for food is strongly recommended, particularly at weekends.
