History

The City of London sits on the site of Roman Londinium, founded almost 2,000 years ago. Fragments of its wall still stand near Tower Hill.

After the Great Fire of 1666, Sir Christopher Wren rebuilt St Paul's and more than 50 City churches, many of which you pass on this route.

What to Expect

Weekdays are busy with office workers, while weekends are much quieter, although some cafes and churches close. The route is mostly flat and paved. Allow extra time if you plan to go into St Paul's or the Tower of London, both of which charge entry.
