Regent's Canal: Little Venice to Camden
About Regent's Canal: Little Venice to Camden
A peaceful towpath walk along Regent's Canal, from the narrowboats of Little Venice past London Zoo and the grand villas of Regent's Park, ending at Camden Lock Market.
History
Regent's Canal opened in 1820 to link the Grand Junction Canal at Paddington with the Thames at Limehouse, carrying goods across north London.
As commercial traffic declined in the 20th century, the towpath was opened up for walking and cycling and is now one of London's best-loved green routes.
What to Expect
The towpath is narrow in places and shared with cyclists, so keep to one side. There is a short section near Lisson Grove where you briefly leave the canal and follow street signs. In summer, waterbuses run the same route if you want to ride one way.
